Get To Know Norman Marks, DDS
Dr. Norman J. Marks has proudly served the Mechanicsville community for over 50 years. He earned his Doctor of Dental Surgery degree from the Medical College of Virginia in 1971 and has remained deeply committed to continuing education and clinical excellence throughout his career. He was awarded a Fellowship in the Academy of General Dentistry, an honor reserved for dentists who demonstrate exceptional dedication to advanced learning and high-quality patient care.
Even after decades in practice, Dr. Norman still looks forward to coming into the office, where he finds purpose in helping patients feel confident while supporting their overall health through dentistry.
Dr. Norman believes in providing the best treatment for the greatest number of patients using the least invasive approach possible. With the latest technology and modern equipment at Marks Family Dentistry, he is able to deliver accurate diagnoses and comfortable, effective treatment.
In addition to his work in the practice, Dr. Norman is passionate about helping shape the future of dentistry. He teaches and mentors other dentists through Professional Clinical Courses in Provo, Utah, and contributes to a monthly International Dental Clinical Newsletter read by thousands of dental professionals worldwide.
As a true family practice, Dr. Norman values working alongside his sons, Dr. Aaron Marks and Dr. Brandon Marks, as well as Dr. Matthew Tomoda, sharing a commitment to providing exceptional, patient-focused care in a welcoming environment.

Get To Know Samuel “Aaron” Marks, DDS
After seeing the enjoyment that his father got out of being a dentist, Dr. Aaron Marks decided that he, too, wanted to become a dentist. In 2002, he joined his father’s practice after earning his Doctor of Dental Surgery from Virginia Commonwealth University School of Medicine.
Dr. Aaron believes in treating his patients well and providing excellent, comprehensive service. As a part of a family practice, he is devoted to cultivating relationships with his patients and enjoys coming into the office every day to help his patients feel better about themselves and become healthier. He finds joy in getting to know his patients and offering them individualized care.
As a graduate of the Kois Center in Seattle, Dr. Aaron takes a focused, comprehensive approach, utilizing the latest research and technology to aid in diagnosis and treatment planning. This approach allows him to provide his patients with high-quality, long-term treatment that is optimized to suit the individual needs and big-picture health issues of his patients.
As someone who is devoted to his community, both local and worldwide, Dr. Aaron regularly volunteers at the Hanover Interfaith Free Clinic, and has provided dental care and helped build dental clinics in rural communities in Jamaica, Honduras, and Belize.

After graduating from the Medical College of Virginia with his Doctor in Dental Surgery, Dr. Brandon Marks joined Marks Family Dentistry in 2005. Dr. Brandon Marks began his own computer company, but, having grown up around dentistry, he knew that he wanted to continue enjoying the benefits of dentistry: engaging with patients who he sees regularly and has come to know personally.
By combining his computer skills and his love for dentistry, Dr. Brandon has helped the practice by designing and constructing the integration of high-tech advances that improve care for patients, enable a greater understanding of their care, and offer the most enjoyable experience at Marks Family Dentistry.
Between the constantly changing technology and the patient-oriented practice that he has helped build, Dr. Brandon continues to be excited to come into the office every day and help his patients live better lives.
Dr. Brandon believes in creating for his patients a treatment plan that is suited to meet their individual needs by utilizing the best progressive technology and an incremental approach. Committed to a patient-focused practice philosophy, he goes the extra mile to ensure that he understands his patients’ needs.

Get To Know Matthew Tomoda, DDS
Dr. Tomoda graduated from the Virginia Commonwealth University School of Dentistry in 2011 and pursued further education by completing a general practice residency at the Veterans Affairs Center in Washington DC. He then went into private practice in Blacksburg, Virginia, and was at the same practice for over nine years. In these years he developed a passion for esthetics. This passion has led him to gain further knowledge by following leaders at the forefront of esthetic dentistry.
Dr. Tomoda has always believed in giving back to the community. Before dental school, he volunteered at the Free Dental Clinic in Harrisonburg, Virginia. He has participated in mission trips to underserved areas of eastern Kentucky and El Salvador. Dr. Tomoda also participated in Donated Dental Services, a program that provides comprehensive dental care to eligible seniors and adults with disabilities. Additionally, he has served on the board of his local Rotary International chapter in Christiansburg and Blacksburg, Virginia.
A lover of reading, when Dr. Tomoda doesn’t have his nose buried in a dental book you can find him reading books on theology, philosophy, and some classic literature. He also enjoys playing guitar and listening to music. He feels blessed to share life with his wife and three children.

When you first visit Marks Family Dentistry, you’ll notice that each member of our team loves what they do, especially when it comes to interacting with patients.
